5 Card Draw Rules

The rules of 5 card draw are pretty simple. 5 Card Draw is a favorite at home poker games around the world. The game is relatively simple to play and can be quite profitable if you use the right 5 Card Draw strategy online. Most people will be used to the ante format. This is where each player puts in an ante of equal value and than the game begins. Playing 5 card draw online is a little different. You will use the blind betting structure when you play online and most people new to online poker don't know how it works so I will start with that.

There is a button that rotates around the table clockwise. At the end of each hand it will move one player to the left. The player to the left of the button must put in the small blind. If you are playing at a table with stakes of $2/4, than the player in the small blind position will put in $2. The player to the left of the small blind must put in the big blind which would be $4. Now that the blinds are placed the dealer will deal five cards face down to each player. You can look at your cards and decide what you want to do. The player to the left of the big blind position will be first to act. He can either fold, call or raise. This will continue around the table until it gets back to the player in the small blind.

The $2 that the player put in the pot already will be used if he wants to call or raise, but if he folds he forfeits that money and the same goes for the player in the big blind. After the betting each player that is still in the game will have to decide what cards he wants to keep and which ones to discard. You do not have to trade cards if say for instance you have a flush or you just want to bluff. The rules for 5 card draw are a little different online that most home games. You can draw 5 new cards if you like.

After the draw, the player to the left of the big blind will have another chance to bet. This will go around the table again and after the betting is complete each player will show their hands. The player with the best 5 card hand will win the pot. Use the chart below to determine which hand is best.
